Job summary
The Community Midwifery team at UHDB(University Hospitals of Derby and Burton) is looking for a committed, enthusiastic new team member with good communication skills who is passionate about contributing and delivering the best possible experience from our maternity service.
The post involves supporting birthing people in their community, within the home and clinic environments. Maternity Support Workers are a key member of the maternity team at UHDB, the role can be varied and includes some administrative and logistical duties. The MSW will work alongside Midwives but also independently when qualified in role.
This post will suit an experienced Maternity Support Worker however we will offer the necessary training to a candidate who has the required qualifications and is willing to accept the post at a band 2 and commits to the necessary training to reach a Band 3.
Main duties of the job
The role involves working alongside Midwives in antenatal clinic, supporting patients in the community during pregnancy and after the birth of their baby in postnatal clinics and in the home. You will be trained to support with infant feeding, carry out venepuncture and newborn screening tests.
The position will include some administrative duties. You will also need to demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills. The role does involve moving between multiple locations during the working day.
The successful candidate will require access to their own vehicle for work purposes and a full driving licence. The team in which this is based is within Amber Valley and the Derbyshire Dales.
The role involves a working day commencing at 8:00 hours and progresses through to include some weekend working when appropriate experience is achieved. Please consider this when making an application.

About us
We provide low and high-risk care pathways - and specialty pathways including diabetes and cardiology.
Around 9,000 babies are born each year across two sites, and we provide antenatal and postnatal care for 11,500 women each year in hospital and our communities.
Facilities
We have three wards across two sites, with a total of 88 beds for antenatal, postnatal and induction of labour.
At Royal Derby Hospital there are:
17 delivery rooms including one pool room and bereavement suite.
Four bedded Midwife led birth centre.
Four bedded Obstetric Enhanced Care area and a two bedded assessment bay
Queen's Hospital Burton has seven delivery rooms including one pool room and one bereavement suite.
Samuel Johnson Community Hospital is currently closed to intrapartum care but continues as a community midwifery hub.
Where we are now
We are CQC rated Good in 2019 and we are making good progress in achieving compliance with the immediate and essential actions from Ockenden report 1, with assurance on progress being overseen by Quality Performance Committee and Trust Board. We also have developed specialist roles to deliver the Public Health Agenda and we actively engage with the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnerships.
We have more to do in driving forward improvements and positive change in maternity services to make sure we deliver the best quality of care, every time, and are looking for a strong leader who can continue the good work already done by the outgoing post-holde
