Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Voice Services team at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

Responsible for the Trust's fixed and mobile telecommunications provision, operational support, and undertaking an extensive project to replace and consolidate the telephone systems across five hospital sites.

Voice Services is looking for four experienced, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individuals to join the team as Telecoms Engineers.

These positions are well suited to a good communicator with technical knowledge and experience with both analogue and IP telephony, ideally in a large corporate or healthcare environment, providing a hands-on role in the delivery and support of telecommunication services to the Trust.

Main duties of the job

To provide maintenance and support of Trust-wide telephony systems, hardware and solutions in use within UHDB including but not limited to:

    • Analogue & IP telephony hardware/end user devices
    • Legacy Telecoms Systems (analogue PBX)
    • Telephone line maintenance and monitoring
    • Peripheral telecoms and pager equipment
    • Telecoms/Data patching
    • Fault Finding/Troubleshooting
    • Support the Voice Services team and wider Digital Services teams in the provision of operational work, and support the Voice Services Project Team in the implementation of the Telephony Replacement Project.

Essential

  • Educated to Degree level in IT/telecoms related subject, or with relevant telecoms support experience.

Desirable

  • Prince II foundation ITIL intermediate

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Good working knowledge of legacy and current telecoms systems and relevant experience in a telecoms support role
  • Familiar with network protocols including TCP/IP (wired and wireless), DNS, DHCP, QOS.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting complex telecoms issues within legacy and emerging ICT infrastructures.

Desirable

  • Use and programming of Siemens ISDX telecommunications systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NHS organisations, structures, and systems as well as national policies/strategies for the NHS

Skills and Ability

  • Good communication skills, verbal/written including excellent presentation skills, the ability to engage, motivate staff and other stakeholders, and appreciate the needs of others.
