An exciting new opportunity has arisen for Band 2 phlebotomists to be a part of the experienced and friendly teams in the Children's Outpatients departments based at Royal Derby and Burton hospitals. The role involves working with babies and young children with a wide variety of medical and complex needs within the paediatric outpatient areas. We provide phlebotomy clinics for our inhouse Consultant clinics as well as community & GP blood requests.
The Childrens Outpatients Departments are busy areas running clinics covering all specialities including General Paediatrics, ENT, Orthopaedic and Fracture, Dermatology, Epilepsy and Diabetes as well as Nurse lead clinics and a busy phlebotomy service with no two days ever being the same.
Applicants will need to be dynamic, motivated, reliable and flexible, with a willingness to learn key skills related to this post. Experience in paediatric phlebotomy is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. Excellent communication and organisational skills are key, as is a commitment to delivering quality care to our patients. You will need to be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team and be able to prioritise your workload and liaise confidently with staff from all disciplines.
Main duties of the job
- To collect blood samples by Venepuncture as requested by clinicians for testing in the Pathology laboratory's at RDH and QHB.
- To assist senior staff within the Department, maintain and develop the service in line with departmental objectives
- To work within the departments undertaking other duties when necessary to meet the service needs
- To participate in a cross-site shift pattern between RDH & QHB
- Working flexibly on a rota basis
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Friendly and compassionate manner, with an understanding of dignity and respect for patients and colleagues
- Stock management of phlebotomy consumables
