An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 enthusiastic and motivated trainee physician (ST4 or above) with an interest in leadership and management to join University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust as a Chief Medical Registrar starting on 4th September 2023.
Main duties of the job
The chief registrar role provides either a senior higher specialty trainee or candidate applying through the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) route with the opportunity to develop valuable skills in leadership and management. The role is devised to ensure a minimum of 40% protected time to put these skills into practice by developing initiatives that address local challenges. Chief registrars have a tangible impact on service improvement, workforce transformation, engagement and morale, education and training and work to deliver better outcomes for patients, colleagues and organisations.
Trainees will benefit from a flexible training model that enables them to develop a portfolio of skills and experience that will benefit future consultant posts and leadership roles and build a profile that marks them out as a future clinical leader. The clinical component (60%) can be modified according to your individual needs but is likely to involve out-patient clinics and may include a contribution to the out-of hours rota.

The Derby and Burton Chief Medical Registrars will be supported both by the medical division senior management team and nationally from the bespoke leadership and management development programme provided by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP).
The RCP leadership and management development programme commences in August/September 2023 and will involve some travel. The RCP cannot reimburse travel and accommodation expenses. The Trust will pay the programme fees for 2023/24.
Applications are open to trainee physicians:
- At ST4 or above
- Working full time or less-than-full-time
- With a national training number or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (Combined Programmes) (CESR-CP))
- With full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Who donothold a CCT or be within 6 months of completion of training on intended start date
This is a fixed-term role, starting in August/September 2023, for a minimum of 12 months. The role can be undertaken in programme or out of programme (training or experience). Less than full time applications are welcomed.
