Job summary
Thanks to securing new funding, the diabetes team at UHDB are pleased to offer a diabetes specialist post. 1.28 WTE are available. The post holder will work closely with the advanced dietitians within diabetes including a newly appointed Pump Therapy lead, Young Adult Lead, Lead for Antenatal and Lead for Education. We also have a team of highly skilled dietitians and assistant staff supporting the service.
The diabetes MDT at UHDB (University Hospitals of Derby and Burton)is a high functioning, very well-respected team nationally and are regularly involved in new research opportunities and are experts at delivering the DAPHNE education programme. The team offers a wide range of therapeutic treatments to patients including; multiple daily injection therapy, insulin pumps with closed loop functions and continuous glucose monitoring devices to patients.
As an active member of the team you will be involved in the education and management of all patients with diabetes, routinely participate in Quality Improvement programmes and become expert in insulin delivery regimes.
Although the role sits predominantly in the diabetes service, there is clear support and opportunity within the wider dietetic service. You will be actively involved in department meetings, student training and have opportunities for personal development. The department focuses on social inclusion with strong emphasis on well-being and positive team culture.
Main duties of the job
You will work as an active member of the diabetes team and wider department. We are a welcoming, forward thinking and supportive team of clinical leads and specialist dietitians. You will also work closely with the wider diabetes MDT and secure excellent working relationships with diabetes nursing colleagues. We have excellent links with our paediatric diabetes colleagues.
You will provide dietetic care to patients with diabetes accessing the services of UHDB. You will work with a caseload of adults across the age groups. You will actively be involved in providing cover for several clinics and regularly deliver education to both service users and other HCP's.
The diabetes team are routinely involved in research, project work and service improvement and follow evidence-based practice. We pride ourselves on having a very close relationship with the wider MDTs within the hospital, including working with consultants, specialist nurses, speech and language therapy, physiotherapists, psychologists and the play team. This gives us the opportunity for advanced clinical supervision as respected members of the team.
