Job summary
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to work in paediatrics with a specialist interest in diabetes and general paediatrics. We have two posts on offer - one specialising in diabetes predominantly, the second post will be split across diabetes and general paediatrics.
The children's diabetes service is one of the top performing services in the country, achieving excellent audit results and clinical outcomes for patients. The team offers a wide range of therapeutic treatments to patients including; multiple daily injection therapy, insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring devices to patients.
We have an ever expanding case-load of patients receiving closed-loop therapies. As an active member of the team you will be involved in the education and management of all patients with diabetes, routinely participate in Quality Improvement programmes, become expert in insulin delivery regimes and along with the other dietitians, will lead in one or more aspects of patient care each year (pumps/CGM/carb counting/education).
In addition to diabetes you will cover a caseload of general paediatrics. The patient group will include allergy, HEF, faltering growth, ward cover and outpatient clinics. There is opportunity to cover specialist services such as Cystic Fibrosis and Neonatal care. You will work as part of a very forward thinking motivated team, and have opportunity for professional growth and development as part of the role.
Main duties of the job
The department currently provides a service to paediatric Home Enteral Feeding, paediatric diabetes, child development, food sensitivity and allergy, coeliac disease, cardiac conditions as well as inpatient and outpatient services, Cystic Fibrosis, Metabolic conditions, PKU, Neonatal care and Ketogenic diets.
You will work as an active member of the Paediatric Dietetic team and wider department. We are a welcoming, forward thinking and supportive team of paediatric dietitians, 1 dietetic assistant and 1 dietetic practitioner.
We are routinely involved in project work and service improvement, and follow evidence based practice. We pride ourselves on having a very close relationship with the wider MDTs within the hospital, including working with consultants, specialist nurses, speech and language therapy, physiotherapists, psychologists and the play team. This gives us the opportunity for advanced clinical supervision as respected members of the team.
As a teaching hospital we have a wealth of experience across many clinical areas and we work closely with our tertiary centres in the surrounding area for shared care patients.
