Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join our reputable ED team, providing further experience in Emergency Medicine, whilst offering the opportunity to develop a specialist interest related to EM. We offer adaptability to suit the experience of the candidate, ranging from a level of ST3 equivalence to post CCT.
The posts are ideal for those:
- Considering a career in EM - looking for support and training required to successfully apply for a HST post or looking for the support required to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at the Royal Derby Hospital.
- Wishing to stay within their chosen specialty of EM, but not keen to follow a training route as a HST or CESR doctor.
- Undecided and looking to gain further experience in EM at middle grade level in a reputable dept.
- Post CCT and wishing to gain further EM experience in a highly reputable dept prior to taking up an EM Consultant post.
The post will include clinical experience at middle grade level in ED as well as specific teaching, training and support depending on career aspirations. The post is intended to provide specific secondment-style modules for up to 3 months or allow a 75:25 split of time between EM and area of special interest.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to prioritise and time-manage effectively according to the activity of the department and to utilise appropriately the available senior staff for advice. They will also be expected to give advice to more junior members of the workforce, in their middle grade capacity.
The post-holder will be expected to work 40 hour per week plus out of hours contract for a fixed-term minimum period of 12 months in the first instance. The contract can be subsequently extended upon mutual agreement and the completion of expected outcomes following this period.
We would encourage the post holder to complete work based placed assessments to allow documentation of their own development. Education is an important part of the role. The post holder is likely to be involved in supporting the training of all levels of staff: medical, nursing, para-medical. Among groups who regularly attend the Department are Student Nurses, Ambulance Paramedics and Medical Students.

Our range of innovative workforce solutions coupled with education, mentorship and support have received national recognition, including RCEM Clinical Team of the Year in 2017.
