Job summary
Clinical Fellow in Bariatric Surgery at East-Midlands Bariatric & Metabolic Institute (EMBMI).
Applications are invited for a fixed-term (6-months, extendable to 12-months) post- or peri-CCT Royal College of Surgeons of England Accredited Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery Fellowship at EMBMI, based at Royal Derby Hospital, Derby. EMBMI provides an in-house Tier 3 and the regional Tier 4 service for patients from Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, and further afield. EMBMI undertakes a range of procedures including primary (Roux en-Y gastric bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, one-anastomosis gastric bypass, gastric band and balloon insertions) and complex revisional surgery.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will actively participate in the running of the unit, academic activities, have the opportunity to become involved with on-going research and participate in postgraduate laparoscopic courses.
The fellow will provide cover during day-time hours (8am to 5pm) for bariatric emergencies presenting to EMBMI but will not take part in the middle grade general surgery oncall rota.
Applicants must hold MBBS or an equivalent medical qualification, FRCS (or equivalent) and be within 12-months of CCT date. Candidates will preferably hold a higher degree (MD or PhD) or equivalent. Applicants should also be proficient in laparoscopic procedures (cholecystectomy, fundoplication, appendicectomy and hernias) and have good laparoscopic suturing skills.
