Main duties of the job
Full support and training will be available.
You will receive supervision, access to an Eportfolio and be encouraged to join the established teaching programmes. We can offer PACES training if needed and opportunities to complete the alternative certificate ready for higher training applications.
You will have a £500 study leave budget and subject to individual requirements, there may be scope to facilitate attendance at Advanced Life Support (ALS)or IMPACT courses. We will perform your annual appraisal.

We would be very pleased to appoint 1 x Senior Clinical Fellows (SCF, IM3 equivalent) to work in Acute Medicine and Specialist Medicine as part of a well-resourced transformation of general medical care. Based at Queens Hospital, Burton the appointees will undertake duties for the Acute Medicine Business Unit (AMBU) and Specialist Medicine Business Unit (SMBU) within the Medical Division.
The posts will involve 6 months acute medicine and 6 months specialist medicine. The Specialist Medicine experience will be in either Geriatrics/Diabetes/Respiratory. The hours of work and the rota will be different whilst working in either AMBU or SMBU.
These posts will initially join the middle grade twilight rota, working alongside the out of hours medical registrar. There is either direct or indirect consultant availability in and out of hours. Following confirmation of the necessary capabilities, the rota will alter to include overnight responsibilities (to be confirmed ranging from 1:7 to 1:9).
A recent report on training at Queens Hospital Burton (November 2020) reported that trainees felt very well supported by educational and clinical supervisors and highlighted that the consultants are keen to teach.

There is consultant presence on site for the take 0800-2100 seven days a week. Overnight supervision by consultants is from home. Until 2400 each night there are two middle grades in the hospital.
Numerous training opportunities are available in all teams and you will be actively encouraged to access these options throughout your 12 months.
Applicants must hold MBBS or an equivalent medical qualification and have 4 years post qualification experience including experience in Acute Medicine/ Medical specialties. A minimum of 6 months experience as a doctor in the NHS in medical specialties within the past 2 years is essential. Candidates without this criterion will NOT be shortlisted.
Full Registration with the GMC with a licence to practice at time of application is essential. Applicants must also be eligible to work in the UK and have excellent skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable highly effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
Your leave will be 27 days (based on a five day week) in addition to bank holidays, which must be booked 6 weeks in advance. Your leave can be taken throughout the 12 months, subject to approval. After 5 years working for the NHS, your accrued annual leave will be 32 days (based on a five day week) plus bank holidays as per the NHS Employers website 2017. You will be expected to work a proportion of Bank Holidays (with time off in lieu (TOIL)).

- You will have access to the eportfolio and an Educational Supervisor who will oversee your training and progress throughout your 12 months.
