Domestic Assistant – Higher Level

Job summary

We are looking to recruit two friendly and flexible domestic assistants to join our small team at Blyth Community Hospital.

Hours of work for these positions are:

Monday - Friday between 3pm-7pm (20 hrs)

Monday - Friday between 3.30pm -7pm (17.5 hrs)

Both roles are to support cleaning within Outpatient clinic areas.

Main duties of the job

Quite simply, the NHS could not function without our Domestics! Every single service in the Trust relies on domestics to keep the place clean and safe for patients, visitors and staff. You'll be part of a team striving to maintain the highest cleanliness standards in wards, departments, corridors and offices, and in doing so making a real difference to the NHS.

The successful candidate will maintain the standard of cleanliness as specified throughout the designated work area by means of approved cleaning methods.

Job responsibilities

  • Cleaning of floor areas as scheduled by means of vacuuming, mopping, buffing and spray cleaning.
  • Undertake deep cleans in areas where infection is present.
  • Removal of rubbish including domestic and clinical waste from designated areas to disposal point.
  • Cleaning of sanitary areas, toilet, sinks, shower cubicles and staff changing areas.
  • Damp dusting of all surfaces, ledges, shelves, curtain rails.
  • Cleaning of internal glass.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all work areas.
  • Carry out any urgent spot cleaning and spillage.
  • Participate in training programmes relevant to efficiency, fire drills, hygiene, the requirements of the health and safety at Work regulations and other courses as deemed necessary for the efficient working of the department.
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate.

Qualifications / Professional Registration

Essential

  • Basic Food Hygiene and/or Level 1 Food Safety Certificate or must be achieved within 6 months of start date.
  • Basic Numerate & Literate Skills

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 1 or 2 or equivalent
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)

Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • Previous domestic experience

Desirable

  • Customer Service training
