Job summary

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Clinical Psychologist to join our Community Learning Disability Team in North Tyneside. The newly appointed clinician will join our multi-disciplinary team, consisting of Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapist, Community Learning Disability Nurses and Support Workers.We provide a wide range of services to both adults and children with intellectual disabilities and mental health, forensic histories, challenging behaviour and dementia, amongst other areas of work.The ideal candidate will be passionate about working in collaboration with individuals, their carers, family and professional colleagues to enhance health and well-being and prevent or reduce behaviour that challenges, health inequalities and promote positive health outcomes.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with both children and adults and will be involved in a range of clinical activities, including assessments, interventions and management of significant risk in the community.Helping those around an individual to make sense of their difficulties including the contribution of neurodevelopmental factors, mental health, systemic factors and trauma.

Essential

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent qualification as accredited by the BPS as qualification for the independent practice of applied psychology in the NHS.
  • Eligible for Chartered Clinical Psychology status.
  • Clinical supervision.
  • Clinical training.

Desirable

  • Post doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychology practice.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of working as a clinical psychologist in the field of learning disability.
  • Experience of individual direct clinical work with a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course and presenting with a full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.
  • Experience of teaching and training other professional groups.
  • Working knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group.
  • Evidence of CPD as recommended by the BPS.

Desirable

  • Experience of clinical supervision.
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of non-aversive behavioural assessments and interventions e.g. La Vigna model.
  • Knowledge, theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies.
  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools.
  • Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods.
