Multiskilled Engineering Apprentice

Job summary

Various exciting and challenging positions have arisen for Level 3 Apprenticeships in Multi Skilled Engineering (note as this is a MultiSkill apprenticeship you will study and work both electrical and mechanical aspects). The Apprenticeship Standard you will study for will be the 'Healthcare Engineering Specialist Technician' (HEST); option 2.

The apprentice will attend a College to study for the technical knowledge aspect of the apprenticeship for example one day / evening a week for the first two years and practical basic skills training as a block release for approximately 8 months. Once this has been achieved, the apprentice will then commence training towards their End Point Assessment for their full Apprenticeship Standard, which will take place within the Employing organisation and NYNHSAC.

The apprenticeship will potentially commence during the week commencing 25th August 2025 subject to all necessary funding and employment checks being carried out, including a colour blindness test. Qualifications acceptable on entry are usually a minimum of GCSE at Grade B / 5 in Mathematics and Grade C / 4, or equivalent, in at least 4 other subjects to include English and a science based subject.

We are looking to appoint 2 apprentices and they will be based at either Wansbeck General Hospital (Ashington), NSECH Hospital (Cramlington), North Tyneside General Hospital (North Shields) or Hexham General Hospital (Hexham), depending on where they live.

Main duties of the job

To provide a multi-skilled Mechanical & Electrical service provision for the Estates Department to all Client departments and Directorates.

- Understand the complete workings and operation of all building services Mechanical & Electrical plant and equipment located in NHS buildings.- Install, service, test, diagnose, repair and calibrate advanced Mechanical & Electrical plant and equipment.- Deal with new situations as they arise and impart knowledge onto others to further their development.- Undertake training as and when required to obtain, maintain and develop skills and knowledge base.- Ordering of stores/materials as and when required.
