Job summary

This post involves working within North Tyneside Specialist Community Psychology Service that offers a range of psychological interventions to patients presenting with psychological difficulties. The Team of Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists and Specialist Psychological Therapists offer psychological interventions for people in the community who are experiencing mental health difficulties. These difficulties may be complex and longstanding and may link to early developmental trauma. We offer a range of groups/courses, psychological interventions and therapies to meet the needs of the population we serve.

The post holder will support both the delivery and evaluation of the psychology service clinical offer. The post-holder will be empathetic, adaptable and responsive to the needs of our patients and have experience of working in mental health. You will also demonstrate emotional resilience and a capacity to maintain a compassionate approach even in stressful situations. Experience of using psychometrics or carrying out research would be beneficial as this will be a key part of the role.

Main duties of the job

To work within North Tyneside Community Specialist Psychology Service to assist with several defined duties as agreed with the clinical service lead (psychologist) and the team manager. These include a range of both clinical and non-clinical work such as clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collections of statistics, development of audit/research, teaching and other project work. Working under the guidance and supervision of qualified psychologists, the post holder will participate in clinical work such as the service's triage and screening pathway and providing support to and co-facilitate group interventions. To a more limited extent, when appropriate, to support and enhance the professional psychological care of patients within the Psychology Service, providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the direct supervision of a qualified psychologist.

Tasks will be agreed and reviewed at appropriate intervals under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, but the post holder will take these tasks forward independently on a day-to-day basis.

  • Eligible for graduate membership of the BPS

Desirable

  • Post-graduate training counselling skills or other relevant areas of psychology

Experience and Knowledge

  • Some evidence of an attempt to gain experience in areas relevant to psychology either via paid or voluntary work. Or having worked previously as an assistant psychologist.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
