Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual into a busy working environment.

The aim of the role is to clean, sterilise and pack instruments for use in operating theatres and ensure sets are in full working order.To deliver equipment and stock to ward and departments ensuring that all dirty equipment is returned to the SSD department for processing.Assist in the checking and processing of equipment and the wrapping of equipment ready for return to the wards/department.Transport equipment across sites as necessary to ensure a seamless service.

Main duties of the job

The aim of the role is to clean, sterilise and pack instruments for use in operating theatres and ensure sets are in full working order. The successful applicant should be able to provide clean, sterile packed instruments 7 days per week.

The department works to controlled environments and standards which meet ISO9001/EN13485 conditions aim of the role is to clean, sterilise and pack instruments for use in operating theatres and ensure sets are in full working order.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To clean, sterilise and pack instruments for use in operating theatres and ensure sets are in full working order.
  • To follow correct procedures when in the wash room, ensuring safe use of the washer disinfectors and use of all safety equipment provided in order to prevent contamination of people or equipment.
  • To clean theatre and ward instruments either using the automatic washer disinfectors, or by hand in extreme cases.
  • To provide clinical technical services to patients/clients
  • To inspect equipment when packing or reassembling to ensure cleaning standards are met.
  • To check for cleanliness and pack trays and instruments which have been the automatic washer disinfectors.
  • To safely use the autoclave sterilisers to ensure all equipment meets standards, and is correctly batch stamped so that all equipment can be traced.
  • To ensure maintenance or all instruments which come through the department, which any relevant assembly and dismantling, and sending broken instruments for repair.
  • To use hand and eye co-ordination to check, pack and assemble equipment, both quickly andaccurately.
  • To deal with bodily fluids and contaminants on dirty instruments on a day to day basis.
  • To collect dirty trays from wards, theatres, the post room, and clinics requiring pushing ofheavy trolleys and the occasional exposure to emotional or distressing circumstances.
