Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an assistant appliance technician to work within our brand new workshop based at North Shields. This role will require the successful candidate to become competent in the manufacture of a wide range of orthoses including simple insoles and more complex moulded devices for the Podiatry Service.

The job will also entail day to day administrative duties associated with the provision of this service including stock control, ordering and managing tasks in SystmOne (our computer based administration system). All this must be achieved whilst ensuring that health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to.

Please note we reserve the right to close this vacancy prior to the closing date once the required number of suitable applications have been received.

Main duties of the job

  • Understand and interpret clinical prescriptions received by task on SystmOne using owninitiative and skills to manufacture accurate and effective orthoses.
  • Manufacture a wide range of professional quality foot orthoses ensuring attention to detail.
  • Decide on whether prescriptions are suitable for manufacture and liaise with the Podiatry Appliance Technician/Biomechanics Specialist Podiatrist and/or the prescribing clinician to determine modifications or alternatives.
  • Seek further clarification of prescriptions that are unclear or vague, giving appropriate reasons.
