Job summary
Applications are invited from qualified, enthusiastic and well-motivated Biomedical Scientists, holding a BSc in Biomedical Science and currently registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to join our Northumbria Clinical Chemistry team in this UKAS and HCPC accredited laboratory. We have two full time vacancies available.
Applicants for the newly qualified band 5 post will be expected to successfully complete a Specialist IBMS Clinical Chemistry portfolio within an agreed timescale for progression to band 6, under annex 20 AFC terms and conditions.
The post will be based at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital but the post holder will be rotated to other sites within the Trust including North Tyneside, as part of the departments' shift system.
This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 - Development of Professional Roles, whereby upon completion of an agreed set of competencies you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a qualified Biomedical Scientist band 5 or 6 dependent on experience and qualifications in Clinical Chemistry working within a section of the department and will rotate through all sections of the laboratory. The post holder will ensure that high quality patient results are produced in an efficient and cost-effective way in all sections in which they are working.

In the special sections of the laboratory, which includes spectrometry at the Northumbria site, Protein screening at North Tyneside, and Drugs of Abuse testing at Wansbeck Hospital, they are responsible for analysing samples using complex and advanced techniques.
The post holder will assist the Team Manager to ensure that a high quality Clinical Chemistry Service is provided and will be required to undertake duties at all Trust laboratories as required.
