Job summary

We have a position available for a friendly, flexible and conscientious person to join our small team at Berwick Infirmary working as a Catering Assistant. As part of this role, you will be required to maintain the standards of cleanliness as specified throughout the work areas, by means of approved methods.

This position is to work 13 hrs per work over 2 x 6.5 hr shifts.Shift times are either 7am-2pm or 11am-6pm. You will work a mixture of these shift times covering Monday - Sunday as part of a rota. You will also be required to work a share of Bank Holiday dates.

Other hours may be available.

Please note that it is a requirement of NHFM that all successful applicants pay for their own DBS certificate, if a DBS check is required for the post. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first monthly pay.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving, checking for quality, temperature and correct quantity as per order to suppliers, and the storage of such goods in the appropriate area within the time limits set out in the department policy on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP).

To be able to demonstrate the ability to serve food to staff and patients and to be able to check temperature levels and be aware of the Food Temperature Regulations.

Operating the central dish wash machine, cleaning, drying and checking of the staff/ward crockery and cutlery.

Preparation of vegetables, fruits and salads.

Preparation and dispatch of meals.

Patient meal service

Service of food in restaurant.

Service of food in the Dining Room and associated areas and preparation of sandwiches, hot snacks and beverages where applicable.

The cleaning and re-stocking of vending machines.
