Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Accountant to join our busy and dynamic Financial Management team at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
This role is advertised as an annex 20 which will provide support to the post holder to achieve the full requirements of a Support Accountant role if they do not currently meet the criteria by being appointed as a Band 4 Senior Accountancy Assistant and given support to progress over a 12 - 24 month period in line with experience and qualification requirements.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work within the Financial Management team for the Medicine and Emergency Care Business Unit. The post holder will work with the Business Unit Accountants to deliver financial support and understanding to the service managers and leads within the Business Unit.
Summary of key elements for the role;
- budget statement reconciliation and analysis
- producing budget statements from the ledger
- investigating variances and making necessary adjustments
- implementing adjustments to income and expenditure for forecast and budget setting
- validation of new spend and involvement in business cases
- working closely with finance colleagues
- active engagement with budget holders and other Trust colleagues
The post holder must be able to work on their own and as part of a team. The post holder must be able to prioritise and manage the fluctuating demands on the service.
The role is based at Northumbria House located on Cobalt Business Park with hybrid working arrangements in place and the working hours are Monday to Friday. The Trust would also support anyone wishing to study towards professional qualification including financial support and study leave.

To supervise the Senior Accountancy Assistant and undertake specific projects as defined by the Principal Finance Manager / Directorate Accountant. To organise, co-ordinate, input and manipulate data within the computerised accounting system. To produce monthly financial management budget reports for managers within strict financial timescales, together with supporting information, and analyse and report on reasons for expenditure varying from budget.
