We require reliable, enthusiastic and motivated unregistered vaccinators to join our bank. The post will support a team who provide vaccinations to our patients and staff in our Trust sites and within the community, via residential settings and within their own homes. In return we will offer you:

Main duties of the job

The role is to work as part of a dynamic team across Northumberland & North Tyneside in delivering a safe & effective service for the delivery of the winter vaccinations in acute & community settings.

We have a range of shifts, 7 days per week including day shifts, early shifts, late shifts , twilight, nights & weekends. With bank you can pick & choose which shifts suit you. The post holder will be responsible for:

  • To vaccinate eligible cohorts under the direction of the senior nurse
  • To keep up to date with national protocol/guidance for delivery of vaccines
  • Assess a patient's eligibility for the vaccination
  • Listen to & support any concerns the patient may have & address these appropriately, with the support of the clinical lead/registered clinician, as required
  • Ensure that clinical assessment & eligibility for the vaccine has been carried out prior to vaccination, as well consent being gained by a registered professional
  • Ensure that accurate recording of the vaccine is made on the recording system
  • Ensure that routine, complex & sensitive information is communicated to patients & their relatives/carers
  • Ensure the correct use & disposal of equipment, as per the SOP
  • Adhere to all practice policies & procedures
  • Work within own competencies & use own judgement, seeking support as required
  • Assist the monitoring of stock, as required
  • The post will include lone working, you must be able to drive & have access to a car, as you may work in a variety of locations during a shift.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which the post holder has been trained and assessed as competent, such as below:

Confirm the identity of the patient and the agreement of undertaking vaccination, addressing any concerns

Address any additional questions or refer back to the registered health care professional as appropriateEnsure that the vaccination is conducted in line with the patients condition (offer seat if necessary, encourage them to relax their arm and ensure they are in the most appropriate position to receive the vaccine)

Prepare the vaccine (reconstitution, drawing up), using non-touch aseptic technique, as per the standard operating procedure (SOP) and manufacturers instructions.

Administer the vaccine via intra-muscular route (either in the deltoid muscle of the patients upper arm or the anterio-lateral aspect of the thigh if indicated) in accordance with training and local and national policies, procedures and standards.

Immediately observe patients reaction and if appropriate, direct people to the registered health care professional or post vaccination observation area.

Wear adequate PPE equipment in line with current national guidelines.

Conduct hand hygiene, either alcohol hand gel or hand washing according to guidance before and after each vaccination.

Ensure proper disposal of clinical and non-clinical waste and change of PPE and ensure surfaces are wiped down as per national guidelines.

Be able to respond to and raise issues or concerns with the registered health care professional on complications or emergency situations, such as anaphylaxis.

Respond to queries appropriately and liaise with the clinical supervisor where necessary to gain further advice or information
