Job summary

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Rheumatologist based at North Tyneside General Hospital and supporting the delivery of a Trust wide multi-disciplinary Rheumatology Service.

The consultant team have a range of special interests and the successful candidate with compliment the other members of the department. They will provide a Rheumatology service to the population of North Tyneside and Northumberland and work with members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality care.

Main duties of the job

The posts will be flexibly time-tabled to meet the demands of the service and the timing of sessions may change as the service develops.

The Full-time working week will consist of 10 Programmed Activities (PA's), separated into:

1.Direct Clinical Care

2. Supporting Professional Activities:

  2. Supporting Professional Activities: 1.5 PAs

The Trust supports requirements for continuing professional development as laid down by the Royal Colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

A proposed job plan has been outlined in Appendix 2 and will be agreed on commencement of appointment.

Responsibility for medical appraisal by acting as a lead/primary appraiser within the service and ensuring that all medical staff within your service undertake an annual appraisal in line with the Trust's Medical Appraisal Policy and GMC standards.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP
  • Fully registered on the UK General Medical Council's Specialist Register for Rheumatology; or Specialist Registrars may apply if within 6 months of CCT at date of interview.
  • Full accreditation with the appropriate Royal College
  • Full GMC Registration.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience in Rheumatology, equivalent to that required to gain entry to the UK Certificate of Completed Training (CCT).
  • High standard of clinical skill and expertise in Rheumatology
  • Clinical Governance
  • Expertise in sub specialty.

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of, and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.

  • Teaching of non medical health professionals.
