Job summary

Providing specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment and discharge support for patients withcomplex physical and health needs in the area of Stroke Rehabilitation. The service provides occupational therapy in hyper-acute, inpatient rehab and community rehab settings.

The successful candidate will need to have post graduate experience of working within a stroke service. They will need to feel confident and comfortable working autonomously without direct supervision, and have the skills to guide and support others e.g. rotational staff, rehabilitation assistants and technical instructors. Main duties of the job

  • To ensure the stroke OT service provision is prioritised and service delivery is made effectively within resource constraints.
  • To manage a defined caseload of patients (often with highly complex and long-term needs), using evidence based clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • To undertake highly complex assessments, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic interventions. This work will take place both in patients' homes and hospital.
  • To provide leadership for junior and support staff, through supervision and mentoring.
  • To carryout appraisals with junior and support staff, as delegated by Line Manager.
  • To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy services within a designated area/team, holding responsibility for defined projects through specialist interest and steering group.
  • To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Occupational Therapy service.
  • To regularly supervise undergraduate Occupational Therapy students on practice placement and participate in placement experience of other professionals.
