Job summary

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a full time Clinical Research Fellow in Respiratory Medicine.

The clinical duties of this post will be based predominantly at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH); with cross site working including sessions at Wansbeck General Hospital (WGH), North Tyneside General Hospital (NTGH) and Hexham General Hospital (HGH).

The successful candidate will be given full training in the wide spectrum of Respiratory Medicine, both on our acute Respiratory wards (including an 11 bedded RSU unit) and in Respiratory outpatients.

You will participate in the provision of outpatient services and Respiratory procedures as well as taking a role in the current middle grade rota at NSECH.

Main duties of the job

The post will be flexibly time-tabled to meet the demands of the service and the timing of sessions may change as the service develops.

A typical week would consist of 10 Programmed Activities (PA's);

  • Inpatient care on the Respiratory wards at NSECH
  • Respiratory clinics at NTGH, WGH and HGH
  • Admin and audit: Regional teaching plus monthly SpR teaching
  • Opportunity to attend Bronchoscopy and EBUS and Thoracoscopy.
  • Contribution to the respiratory rota across a range of shifts covering Monday to Sunday 8am to 8pm.

This post is open to trainees who have completed foundation training. The role and responsibilities will be adjusted according to prior experience. The fellow will provide medical support within the Clinical Research Department (CRD) for high profile clinical trials. They will work within a supportive, multidisciplinary team of research nurses,

Principle Investigators, clinical trial pharmacists and study co-ordinators. They will gain experience and training in all aspects of clinical research delivery, including: study set up, recruitment, consent, pharmacovigilance, investigations, research governance and follow-up of patients.

The CRF will receive the necessary training to enable them to deliver clinical research; prior experience is not essential.

The post will be based at NSECH with outpatient and diagnostic commitments Trustwide: as such the post holder may be required to work at other sites within the Trust.

If the successful appointee has over 4 years post qualification experience they will be appointed on specialty doctor 2021 terms and conditions.
