Job summary
We are searching for a senior nurse to lead and manage a team of nurses and AHP's within our Acute medical admissions ward within Northumbria Healthcare.
We are for looking for an individual who is dynamic, highly motivated and committed to high quality patient care. The post holder must have a flexible approach, have expertise in supporting the delivery of high standards of nursing care for patients within the acute medical pathway, and will be able to demonstrate exceptional clinical leadership and communication skills across the multi- disciplinary team.
The Ward Manager role includes being responsible and accountable for the day to day management of the unit, and having an enthusiasm for staff and service development. Professional attributes would include ability to deal with change, and being able to work autonomously and effectively within the multidisciplinary team.
Ward 9 is a 30 bedded acute medical ward within the Medicine and Emergency Care Business Unit, providing evidence based multi-disciplinary care with immediate and specialist management for the acute medical patient. This includes rapid diagnostic facilities, treatment and a multi-disciplinary approach including provision of comprehensive medical assessment.
The aim of the Ward 9 is to help patients on their journey to recover to the point that they can either be transferred for ongoing care, return to their own home or to further care in the community.
Main duties of the job
- To take 24 hour responsibility for the efficient and safe management of a department
- To be responsible for all nursing care standards and to maintain high clinical standards
- To exercise accountability as set out in NMC Code of Professional Conduct
- To support the Senior Nurse/Service Manager in the effective utilization of resources
- To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which
(a) engages, enables and empowers others
(b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and
(c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams/departments and across organisational boundaries.
