Job summary

An opportunity has arisen due to service development for a suitably qualified, highly motivated Podiatrist to join our team as a Podiatric Surgery Trainee. The post holder will be expected to support the Consultant Podiatric Surgeons to assist in the delivery and development of the podiatric surgery service across the Trust whilst successfully completing the Master of Podiatric Surgery including parts 1&2 surgical exams.

Main duties of the job

The post includes 2 theatre sessions per week as well as working in out-patient clinics.

Applicants must have the ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries with excellent communication skills at all levels as well as the commitment to be flexible to suit the needs of the service.

Essential:

  • BSc Podiatric Medicine
  • MSc Theory of Podiatric Surgery
  • Completed Passport in Podiatric Surgery Training
  • Registered with Health and Care Professions Council
  • Certificate in Local Analgesia
  • POMS certification
  • CPR certification
  • Ionising Radiation Health and Safety Certificate
  • Significant post graduate experience
  • Previous experience of working within a Podiatric Surgery team
  • The ability to meet the transport requirements of this post

About us

The Podiatric Surgery team comprises 2 Consultants and 2 Advanced Staff Podiatrists, having good autonomy yet with excellent links into many specialities within this large acute Trust.

Job responsibilities

  • To be part of a highly motivated team, providing a high standard of clinical care in a highly specialised area.
  • Providing highly specialist advice regarding Podiatric Surgery to patients, podiatrists, GPs and other Health Care Professionals.
  • To undertake training in surgical procedures under the direct supervision of the Consultant Podiatric Surgeon and to conduct outpatient clinics.
  • The Podiatric Surgery trainee will be expected to follow the syllabus of the Royal College of Podiatry over a three-year period with the intention of completing Part 1 and Part 2 surgical examinations ultimately leading to Fellowship of the Royal College via the Master of Podiatric Surgery (MOPS) qualification at University of Huddersfield, which must be completed prior to application for the part 2 exam.
  • The postholders role will be based on the standards as set out by the HCPC for podiatry and podiatric surgery. This sets out the expectations of education providers delivering training in podiatric surgery and the knowledge, understanding and skills expected of a podiatrist practising podiatric surgery that they will demonstrate to complete their training.
  • A high degree of creativity and latitude is expected of the post holder.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
