We are looking to recruit enthusiastic people who are willing to learn and get stuck in for a Facilities Apprenticeship at the following sites:
- Alnwick Infirmary
- Berwick Infirmary
- Blyth Community Hospital
- Hexham General Hospital
- North Tyneside General Hospital (North Shields)
- Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (Cramlington)
- Wansbeck General Hospital (Ashington)
This is a fantastic opportunity to start your NHS and Facilities Management career, doing a role that will really make a difference to the community.
The duration of the apprenticeship will be 12 months and you will do a 4 month rotation in each of Catering, Portering and Domestic Services.
You will complete a Level 2 Facilities Services Operative apprenticeship and will gain recognition at Associate Level from the Institute of Workplace Facilities Management.
You will gain hands-on experience for 4 days per week and will conduct learning activities on the 5th day.
Pay is £10.42 per hour (equivalent to the National Minimum Wage).
We will guarantee a position at the end of the apprenticeship - subject to successful completion of the apprenticeship and meeting our expected standards during the course of your employment.
Main duties of the job
To work under the supervision/guidance of team leader/supervisor in the delivery of high-quality facility services across portering, catering and domestic services.
Assist with daily workload within a department.
To gain relevant work based learning with a facilities environment
Become prepared and knowledgeable within the working environment and work towards gaining a Level 2 Facilities Services Operative Apprenticeship.

Duties within Portering will include the transportation of patients, equipment, supplies and waste, changing medical gases, collecting and delivering post, and general assistance to staff, patients and visitors.
Duties within Catering will include basic food preparation, picking and packing meals for patients, serving food to staff and visitors in the hospital restaurants, using a till, washing up, loading and unloading the dishwasher, general cleaning duties.
Duties within Domestic Services will include cleaning wards, departments, offices and corridors. Mopping, scrubbing, dusting and vacuuming. Removal of rubbish. Filling water jugs and assisting nursing staff with teas and coffees for patients at some sites.
