Lead Medical Examiner Officer - Band 6
This role is to lead the medical examiner office which currently consists of 5 medical examiner officers and a number of part time Medical Examiners.
The role is newly developed and the post holder will be expected to help drive forward the Medical Examiner office in terms of service development and improvement.

Main duties of the job
To participate in the implementation of the reforms of death certification and to aim to improve the processes of death certification and referrals to the Coroner.
To work with the Medical Examiner's Officers and Medical Examiners to maintain the Medical Examiners Service.
To act as a source of expertise, advice and knowledge for relatives and health care professionals involved in the process.
To participate in developing protocols, guidelines and policies for the service development and expansion of existing ME model to include community deaths.

The Lead MEO will support the MEOs and MEs in their role in scrutinizing the circumstances and causes of death. They will be a point of contact and source of advice for relatives of deceased patients, healthcare professionals and coroner and registration services.
The MEO will provide advice and support to junior doctors and nursing staff regarding the legal requirements relating to registration of death, completion of necessary investigations including referral to the Coroners office and documentation for cremations.
To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
