Job summary
We are looking for enthusiastic and experienced Registered Adult Nurses to join the Northumbria Trustwide Specialist Diabetes service. You will have post registration experience in either a hospital or community clinical setting, and relevant recent diabetes nursing experience.
These posts will be based within either the locality teams at Wansbeck or North Tyneside General Hospitals and will be part of the wider specialist nursing team. The post holder will work flexibly and may be required to work at other sites across the Trust. A full driving license is essential and you must be able to meet the travel requirements of this post.
A robust Trust induction programme and continuous Diabetes Specialist Nurse support and training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
Northumbria diabetes service has established principles of multidisciplinary team working. A core part of the specialist service work is the delivery of structured teaching and training courses to both health care professionals and people with diabetes, and supporting and mentoring student nurses during their placement in the diabetes service.
As a member of the Trust wide diabetes nursing team, post holders will take responsibility for the provision of expert diabetes nursing care
You must be able to work effectively as part of a team and independently using a high level of interpersonal skills.
You will work across specialist, secondary and primary care services, providing complex case management and supporting people with diabetes in the community, and act as a resource to community teams. As a diabetes specialist nurse you will monitor and deliver on-going support to people newly diagnosed with diabetes and initiate patient treatment plans both in the community and hospital settings, whilst also contributing expertise in the multidisciplinary specialist diabetes clinics. You will be supported and supervised by our experienced team of band 7 DSN's and wider MDT.
