This vacancy will include all areas of Domestic work of which full training will be provided, with the opportunity to work towards N.V.Q. Qualification. You may be required to work Bank Holidays.
Main duties of the job
Mandatory training provides includes Manual Handling, Food Hygiene and Fire as defined by the Trust policies. The post will be based atNorthumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, but the post holder may be required to work at other sites within the Trust. The following shift patterns are available:
4 X 27.5 hours covering 7 days per week over a 24 hour period
Essential Criteria
- Basic Food Hygiene and/or Level 1 Food Safety Certificate or must be achieved within 6 months of start date
- Basic Numerate & Literate Skills
- Knowledge of cleaning products i.e. COSHH
- Previous domestic experience
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control
Desirable Criteria
- NVQ Level 1 or 2 or equivalent
- GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of using heavy duty cleaning equipment
- Knowledge of cleaning infected areas e.g. MRSA
- Customer Service training

Maintain the standard of cleanliness as specified throughout the designated work area by means of approved cleaning methods.
Able to complete a range of routine work procedures such as:
- Cleaning of floor areas as scheduled by means of vacuuming, mopping, buffing andspray cleaning.
- Undertake deep cleans in areas where infection is present
- Removal of rubbish including domestic and clinical waste from designated areas todisposal point
- Cleaning of sanitary areas, toilet, sinks, shower cubicles and staff changing areas
- Damp dusting of all surfaces, ledges, shelves, curtain rails
- Cleaning of internal glass
- Taking down and putting up of curtains
- Scheduled cleaning of chairs
- Scheduled cleaning of carpets
- To wash walls (shoulder height) fitting and windows where required
- Use all equipment and materials in a correct and safe manner
- Report all faults queries or problems to the Ward Manager/Domestic Supervisor
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all work areas
- Carry out any urgent spot cleaning and spillage
- Any other duties as deemed appropriate
