Job summary
Applications are invited from registered medical practitioners for the post of Teaching Fellow, within the Education Directorate of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, available August 2021. The post will be of 12 months duration and would be suitable for a Doctor with an interest in teaching, training or education wishing to pursue a career with special responsibility for undergraduate or postgraduate education. With the current expansion of medical schools and new GMC standards for education and training, senior posts with an emphasis on education are becoming increasingly important.
Successful candidates must be fully registered medical practitioners with at least two years Foundation Programme experience. They will be accorded Honorary Associate Clinical Teacher status with Newcastle University. The post will be based between North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham General Hospitals, as well as Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, for medical undergraduate teaching.
Main duties of the job
It is envisaged that the commitments of the post will be divided between teaching of medical students (7 sessions per week), continuing professional educational development (2 sessions) and administration/ project work (1 session). It may be possible to negotiate up to one session per week for clinical work at the discretion of the Clinical Sub-Dean and the relevant clinical department. Personal development will include undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education at Newcastle University, or an equivalent qualification. The post-holder will be expected to make a significant contribution to the continued development and delivery of the undergraduate course.
Supported by a Consultant supervisor and the Director for Undergraduate Medical Education together with senior staff and other teaching/ research fellows, the successful applicant will contribute to the delivery and development of the undergraduate medical teaching programme at all levels within the trust.
