Job summary

A Band 5 Registered Nurse is an autonomous, accountable practitioner responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based nursing care within a multidisciplinary team. Working under the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct, Band 5 nurses provide compassionate, person-centred care to patients across a wide range of clinical settings including acute wards, community services, outpatient areas, theatres, and emergency care

Main duties of the job

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised nursing care.Deliver high-quality, evidence-based clinical interventions (e.g., medication administration, wound care, observations, IV therapy--where authorised).Monitor changes in patients' conditions and escalate concerns according to policy.Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and care plans.Complete holistic nursing assessments on admission.Prepare patients for surgery (consent checks, fasting status, skin prep).Undertake pre-operative investigations (observations, blood tests, MRSA screening, ECG where required).Provide patient education about procedures, pain management, and recoveryAdminister medications safely (including controlled drugs and IV therapy where trained).Deliver multimodal analgesia tailored to post-operative needs.Monitor side effects and escalate concerns promptly.Collaborate with surgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and trauma coordinators.Participate in handovers, MDT meetings, safety huddles, and board rounds.Provide clear communication and emotional support to patients and families.Educate patients on wound care, mobility, anticoagulation, and follow-up appointments
