Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Physiotherapist to join our oncology service at Cheltenham General Hospital.Candidatesneed to havea broad range of skillsin a variety of in-patients settings.

We offer in-patient oncological and haematological care to patients from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The post holder will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of conditions relating to cancer treatments and pathology.

Our therapy team is an integral part of the wider dynamic cancer service. As an organisation we aspire to provide the best care for everyone and are committed to our vision of making Cheltenham a Centre of excellence for oncology services.

Our service offers a high level of clinical leadership, supervision and education. We have an active research network and are involved in national clinical trials.

Main duties of the job

To deliver therapeutic intervention, acting as a specialist clinician in oncology, haematology and palliation. The post holder will need to develop skills in medical, orthopaedic, neurological and respiratory skills in relation to oncology and haematology treatments. They will also be involved in end-of-life discussions and discharge planning.

To contribute to oncology service development as part of the wider oncology therapy leadership team.

To assume responsibility for personal development and supporting the development and supervision of others by CPD (continuing professional development), linked to appraisal. You will be directly responsible for a rotational band 5 Physiotherapist and a Senior Therapy Support Worker.

The Therapy service provides physiotherapy and occupational therapy to inpatients and outpatients at Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals.

We are an integrated service providing patient centred care. Our mission is to 'enable people to maximise their potential to live well'

The oncology therapy team consists of senior static staff, rotational juniors, and support staff. We work closely with other AHP's (allied health professionals) within our service and have close working relationships with our medical and nursing colleagues.

  • Degree/diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council
  • Experience of working in the NHS in the UK
  • Experience of supervising, appraising, and providing education/training to others
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written when interacting with patients/carers, other team members and the MDT.
  • Work effectively as a team member within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Work flexibly in response to the changing demands of the service and manage changes in service delivery in self and others.
