Clinical Scientist, DR Physics, Diagnostic Radiology and Radiation Protection, Band 7
The post holder will work within the Diagnostic Radiology and Radiation Protection team within the medical physics department, which consists of 9 Clinical Scientists, Clinical Technologists and admin support.
The post holder will deliver scientific expertise, advice and support for the safe and optimal use ionising radiation within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Gloucestershire Care Services and the other clients.
This role also assists with the provision with Radiation Protection services to external customers under our commercial arm GLOSRAD.
This role focuses on the applications of ionising radiation within radiology, including CT, DEXA, interventional radiology and other areas including cardiology, theatres, endoscopy, breast screening and community dental service. The role may involve supporting work with non ionising radiation.

Main duties of the job
Perform periodic testing and annual radiation safety audit procedures on x-ray equipment as required by current legislation. Including:
- Testing highly-complex, patient-critical x-ray equipment requiring the use of sophisticated computer controlled measurement equipment.
- Reviewing and analysing results for compliance with manufacturer's specification and current safety standards.
- Reviewing and analysing the working procedures used with this equipment, for compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
- Reporting results of work to superintendent radiographers or manager responsible for equipment.
- Working with clinical colleagues to optimise dose and image quality.
Assist in planning the protection required for new X-ray installations, under the supervision of an RPA. Undertake risk assessments of new x-ray equipment prior to use and assist in acceptance testing and critical examination to ensure equipment meets specification and safety standards.
