Job summary
The gynaecology team we have the exciting opportunity for a 12 month locum fulltime (10 PA) consultant post, within the gynaecology service at Gloucestershire Hospitals Trusts.
Any candidate who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full time will still be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content can be discussed on a personal basis. Job share applicants are also welcome.
The post-holder will help provide specialist gynaecology services, including cancer exclusion clinics. They will provide on call support overnight, and on weekends, together with appropriate teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical students. You will be expected to work closely with general practitioners, gynaecology and oncology staff to provide a seamless service and deliver high quality surgical outcomes within national targets.
Integral to the responsibilities of this post are the following objectives:
- To ensure the delivery of a high-quality patient-centred clinical service
- To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in that same task
- To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
- To work in accordance with our trust's procedures and operating policies
- To support the business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Women and Children Division and our Trust
- To work within the framework of team decisions
Main duties of the job
1. Clinical Responsibilities/Key Responsibilities
The appointee will be expected to share responsibility for the delivery of high-quality care to the patientspresenting to the Department.
o The provision of high-quality care in all clinical settings, including theatres, outpatient clinics, wards,and working well as part of a multidisciplinary team
o To support the clinical decision making of resident medical and nursing staff
o To provide on call support out of hours. To attend the department out of hours as per agreed protocols
2. Professional Development, Education and Training
o To participate in ongoing training and personal development
o To contribute to multi-disciplinary skills training
3. Management and Leadership
o To provide medical information for the development of systems appropriate for Trust needs
o To participate in departmental consultant and senior staff meetings whilst remaining within theframework of the agreed strategy of the Trust and the department
o To attend other departmental, divisional and Trust meetings as necessary
o To attend regional and national meetings as necessary
o To undertake all work in accordance with Trust procedures and operating policies
