Job summary
This is an opportunity for a specialist mental health pharmacist to join our team. This clinical role includes leading the education and training of our mental health pharmacy team, and leading the perinatal pharmacy services.
The postholder will be the lead clinical pharmacist for perinatal Mental Health, and for Education and Training, within the pharmacy team. This includes leading and developing the pharmacy service to these areas, , and leading any associated projects.
The postholder will deliver a comprehensive clinical pharmacy and medicines management service to patients under the care of Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (GHC) and to the multidisciplinary teams (MDT) responsible for their care. This involves visiting inpatient wards and community team bases, and attending MDT meetings to proactively review, rationalise and optimise patients' medications.
The pharmacy department at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital provides the clinical pharmacy and dispensing services to Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (GHC) under a Service Level Agreement.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be the lead pharmacist for education and training of the mental health pharmacy team. This will involve development and implementation of a clear strategy for the development of all members of the team.
The post holder will also be the clinical lead pharmacist for perinatal services. This will involve delivering clinical pharmacy service to patients under the care of the perinatal team, working with the team, and developing the pharmacy provision to this service.
The post holder will support patients and their families by providing advice about the actions and use of medication, optimising treatment, providing information and liaising with acute and other care providers to ensure seamless transfer of care.
They will be a clinical specialist in this area and where appropriate, an independent prescribing role would be undertaken.
The post holder will contribute to good physical health wellbeing of patients by providing expert advice and performing interventions to improve physical health.
The post holder will deliver a comprehensive clinical pharmacy and medicines management service to patients under the care of GHC and to the multidisciplinary teams responsible for their care.
This post will require travel to wards and units across Gloucestershire.
About us
The pharmacy department has approximately 240 staff. The 2 sites provide dispensary services to inpatients & outpatients, medicines information, procurement services and full clinical service to wards; the onsite aseptic and manufacturing services are centralised at CGH.Within the department are specialist clinical teams; the Specialist Mental Health Pharmacy facilitates delivery of Specialist services for Mental Health & Learning Disabilities. The cancer services team provide a pharmacy service at both sites for oncology & haematology and satellite pharmacy.
