Job summary
To have nursing responsibility for specialist high quality evidence- based nursing care for children and young people with oncological/ haematological conditions liaising and co-ordinating with a wide variety of multi-discipline of professionals involved in the child/Young person and their family's care.
Providing expert clinical practice and advice to children, young people and their families in the community and acute hospital settings ensuring a seamless service as an autonomous practitioner.
Main duties of the job
As an autonomous practitioner using advanced skills and expert knowledge undertakes assessment of physical, psychological and emotional needs of children/ young people with oncology conditions.
Manage and meet the caseload needs effectively. Including skills for analysing of data and interpreting results.
To be a member of the, actively participate in, and work within the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team and the wider oncology MDT team.
To support the child/ young person and their family through diagnosis, active treatment, end of treatment and follow up care needs including palliative support, respecting their cognitive, developmental and ethnic needs. Through providing expert information, advice and support.
To support a flexible holistic care package including physical, psychological, spiritual, social, financial and emotional needs.
Provide skilled professional evidence-based practice evaluation, teaching and support of professional and voluntary sector colleagues.
Serve as a resource supporting the Paediatric oncology nursing team at local and regional level.
To be flexible to meet the needs of the service, be adaptable to change for service improvement as directed by the line manager and to deputize in the absence of the Lead Paediatric Oncology/ Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist.
To follow and comply with all trust policies and guidelines.
