PHARMACY PIPC CHECKING TECHNICIAN (BAND 5) - developing the Cleanroom supervision role

An exciting opportunity to join the busy Pharmacy Aseptic Services Department has arisen at Cheltenham General Hospital. This post is based at Cheltenham General Hospital . As part of a regional cancer centre, aseptic services unit prepares chemotherapy for patients from Gloucestershire and the surrounding area, including involvement in a variety of clinical trials. The unit also supplies adult PN for both sites.

We have a vacancy for skilled, motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy or Science Manufacturing Technician who is ready to take on an exciting post within the busy Aseptic Services Department at Cheltenham General Hospital. Newly qualified technicians or students qualifying soon are encouraged to apply

Candidates will need relevant qualification (and be registered with The General Pharmaceutical Council if appropriate)

Main duties of the job

Duties of the job;

- To receive cytotoxic prescriptions , perform pre and in process checks on raw materials, labels and worksheets.

- To perform pre and in process checks in TPN.

- Cleanroom supervision

- Prepare, using aseptic technique , cytotoxic intravenous syringes and infusions.

- To generate worksheets and labels , assemble raw materials for aseptically prepared products

- To print and complete all paperwork checks on TPN prescriptions.

To participate in the provision of a safe and efficient aseptic production service for Cheltenham General Hospital and to ensure that the service complies with all relevant legislation, good practice and quality standards. To assist in the training of new staff members, and to provide on-going support and training to all Aseptic Services staff. Provide accredited checking cover within the production unit to provide a high level of pharmaceutical care.

  • Candidates will need a BTEC or NVQ 3 in Pharmaceutical service (or SMT qualification)
  • Candidates will need to be registered with an appropriate body
  • 5 GCSE grade C or above including English and Maths
