We are offering a unique opportunity as a rotational Band 6 in MSK which could include a combination of Core MSK and:

- Hydrotherapy

- Hand Therapy

- Pelvic and Breast Health

- Practice-based/Undergraduate Support

- Pain Self-Management

- Group Exercise Classes

- Clinical Development roles (Core Capabilities Framework / SOMM etc.)

We provide a job plan that balances a varied caseload of MSK patients with personal development opportunities as part of this rotation. These include involvement in research, clinical leadership, supervision and education.

Candidates need to have broad MSK skills and be interested in personal and service development.

As an organisation, we are known for providing support for post-graduate education, including MSc level courses.

We are actively engaged in research, leading in trials with Oxford University and the NIHR. We also have close multi-disciplinary working with other services in the acute trust and with the MSK Advanced Practitioner Service.

Main duties of the job

To support leadership and work within the Therapy team in MSK Outpatients, providing an effective and evidence-based service through assessing, planning and implementing treatment programmes.

To deliver therapeutic intervention, acting as a specialist clinician in MSK Outpatients, by using the principles of Physiotherapy in an integrated and client-centred way.

To assume responsibility for personal development and supporting the development and supervision of others by CPD (continuing professional development), linked to appraisal.

To support evaluation and service development in the clinical area in line with national and local drivers.

The Therapy service is an integrated service providing Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy to inpatients and outpatients at Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals. Our mission is to 'enable people to maximise their potential to live well'

Our Outpatient service was shortlisted for the HSJ Awards and HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2024 for service improvement innovations and performance recovery.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on both sites with a job plan that balances a varied caseload of musculoskeletal patients with personal development opportunities. These will include involvement in research, clinical leadership and the supervision and education of less experienced staff. You will also be integral in the development of undergraduates.

The post holder assumes responsibility for the day to day management of the clinical area, in the absence of the team leader.

The post holder is supervised by a named therapist, who may not be present at all times. Clinical and professional supervision is in the form of regular clinical reasoning sessions, observed practice, peer review and formal training.

The post holder will link with the Band 7 clinical lead therapist to support the use of resources within budget. The level of managerial responsibility involves the supervision and appraisal of junior therapists, support workers and undergraduates, with the support of the Band 7.

Qualifications

  • Degree/ diploma in Physiotherapy.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Experience

  • Appropriate experience working in the specialty of MSK Outpatients, including experience of working with people with long-term conditions
  • Experience of working in the NHS in the UK
  • Experience of supervising, appraising, and providing education/training to others

  • Deliver a high level of skill in patient assessment, diagnosis and management and apply a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written when interacting with patients/carers, other team members and the MDT.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply and utilise evidence-based practice, including National guidelines to deliver, evaluate and audit the service.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the biopsychosocial approach to managing long term conditions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to network with other professionals and set up close working relations
  • Work flexibly in response to the changing demands of the service and manage changes in service delivery in self and others.
  • Facilitate and/or deliver training to other team members and other professionals.
