Job summary

Locum Consultant Obstetrics & Gynaecologist 12 -month fixed term

This locum post is working exclusively within Gloucestershire Hospitals Trusts.

Any candidate who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full time will still be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content can be discussed on a personal basis. Job share applicants are also welcome.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will help provide specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology services, as well as on call in Obstetrics and Gynaecology during the daytime, together with appropriate teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical students. He/she will be expected to work closely with general practitioners, and Obstetrics staff to provide a seamless service and deliver high quality surgical outcomes within national targets.

Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements: -

  • To ensure the provision of a first-class clinical service
  • To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plans
  • To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Women and Children Division or the Trust

Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCOG
  • ATSM in advanced labour ward practice

Desirable

  • ATSM in hysteroscopy
  • Qualification in teaching and training
  • Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to specialty

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience in Obstetrics and general gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
  • Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrate ability to work as a member of multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to lead emergency obstetric and gynaecology services in and out of hours

Desirable

  • Training in obstetric ultrasound
  • Intermediate minimal access gynaecological operating
  • Experience in ambulatory gynaecology including outpatient hysteroscopic procedures
  • Experience in preterm birth prevention clinics

Research and publications

Essential

  • Ability to appraise research critically and apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems

Desirable

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • MD or equivalent

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of delivering multiprofessional simulation training
  • Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
