Job summary

We require Trust Grade Junior Doctors to work in the Medicine Department at Gloucestershire Royal & Cheltenham General Hospital. These are training posts and are initially for 2 years, should all competencies be met to then integrate onto the IMT3 rota.

These posts offer excellent experience within the medical division at St1/2 level in different sub-specialties with 4 months/6 monthly rotations in General Medicine including: Cardiology, Renal Medicine, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Respiratory Medicine, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Care of the Elderly and Stroke.

Main duties of the job

These posts are very suitable for junior doctors who have completed foundation training and are considering or have already been taking a career break (e.g., to go travelling) before joining a formal specialist training programme.

In order to provide sufficient cover for leave and general medicine out of hours worked by the junior doctors in the department in substantive training posts the post-holder at various times may have to work on different wards within the medicine department.

You will be given a protected 1 day per month to pursue another interest to help with career progression, e.g., spending time in another department outside medicine, formal training in QI, etc.

Essential

  • Full General Medical Council registration
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice including: good clinical care,maintaining good medical practice ,good relationships and communication with patients,good working relationships with colleagues,good teaching and training,professional behaviour and probity,delivery of good acute clinical care

Desirable

  • MRCP part 1
  • Previous experience of working in a relevant medical specialty
  • Previous experience working within the NHS (including clinical attachments)

Experience

Essential

  • Out of hours / on call experience relevant to the job
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job.
  • Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need
