Job summary

We wish to appoint 2 new Clinical Fellow Colleagues to meet the increasing demand for anaesthetic services, in particular Obstetric services, at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT). The posts will be a combination of service, teaching and out-of-hours working, which will be flexible.

Full-time or part-time working is possible.

Posts may be 6 months or 12 months duration.

Anaesthetic clinical speciality working can be taken in the following:

o Obstetrics

o Ophthalmology

o Gynaecology (including major gynaecological oncology surgery)

o ENT/Maxillo surgery (including paediatrics and complex airways)

o T & O (including Regional Anaesthesia)

o General surgery - upper (including oesophagectomies) and lower GI

o Urology (major urological work including robotic prostatectomies, cystectomies, open and laparoscopic nephrectomies)

Single or multiple clinical specialities can be accommodated.

The role is an ideal opportunity for either:

1. Applicants approaching CCT to undertake higher training in a specialty/specialties of their choice prior to applying for a substantive consultant position.

Those earlier in their career in anaesthesia who may wish to boost their CV prior to Specialist Trainee (Stage 2) interview. GHNHSFT provides an excellent junior anaesthetic teaching program and has a strong track record in preparing juniors for a successful training rotation application.

o 2 main sites GRH and CGH

o Peripheral sites - Tewksbury, Stroud, Cirencester, Tetbury

o 58 General Consultants

o 18 Critical Care Consultants

o 2 qualified ACCP's and 3 ACCP trainees

o 16 Speciality Doctors

o 63 Trainees

Education, Training & Continuing Professional Development

You will be allocated an Educational Supervisor, with regular meetings to tailor your developmental needs. You will be treated the same as the other trainees in the Department in terms of teaching lists; if you are at Stage 1-2 or more solo lists targeted to your development needs if you are post CCT.

Clinical Fellows will be given the opportunity to attend all mandatory teaching, monthly audit meetings and weekly departmental CPD meetings e.g. Journal Club, M&M meeting, Departmental Teaching.

There will be professional development opportunities ideal for applicants sitting higher exams or pursuing additional experience for their specialist interest.

There will be the opportunity to be involved in audits, quality improvement projects, research and teaching (including simulation).

The Department and Trust will support study leave up to 30 days in every 3 years.
