Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking two Non-Executive Directors to join its Board. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the leadership of the Trust during a period of transformation in the NHS and social care landscape. As a Non-Executive Director, you will play a vital role in shaping our vision and ensuring we deliver on these ambitions.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking individuals with significant strategic experience and a proven ability to challenge, contribute to, and support the vision and objectives of complex organisations. The successful candidates will demonstrate a strong track record of holding senior management teams to account, coupled with a readiness to embrace a high level of personal accountability.

While NHS experience is not essential, candidates should bring relevant expertise that can be effectively applied in our healthcare environment. You will need to quickly understand the health and social care policy, navigate relationships with key stakeholders, and appreciate governance requirements, including the risks inherent in the delivery of our services. Your sound judgment, political acumen, and ability to provide a fresh perspective will be highly valued.

  • A recognised professional finance qualification/recent and relevant financial experience
  • High level of understanding and interest in health and social care issues.
  • Commitment to the NHS Quality Agenda and to quality improvement - to ensure care is safe, effective and that patient experience is taken into account.
  • The ability to think and plan ahead, balancing needs, constraints and establishing priorities.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Ability to understand complex strategic issues, analyse and resolve difficult problems.
  • Politically astute, with the ability to grasp relevant issues and understand relationships between interested parties.
  • The ability to accept accountability and probe and challenge constructively, holding the executive to account.
  • Clear understanding, and acceptance of the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of Non-Executive Directors.
  • Understand issues in respect of risk management and corporate governance.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Evident Board level experience in a large/complex/changing organisation.
  • Proven ability in chairing board level committees.
