Job summary
This post is for an Adult Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Imaging. Candidates with another sub-speciality interest are encouraged to apply.
The post-holder's prime responsibility will be to provide subspecialty skills in cardiac Imaging with a focus on echocardiography and transoesophageal echocardiography. Expertise in stress imaging is preferred. The post-holder would be expected to participate in the supervision of the trusts' dedicated 'valve clinic', comprising a contemporary multidisciplinary one-stop imaging and clinical assessment, and a physiologist-led valve clinic. Experience and accreditation in Heart Failure or an additional modality of imaging is welcomed, with agreements in place to practice cMRI in a nearby trust and / or cardiac CT locally. This will include liaison with regional partners, taking a lead in developing necessary services and patient pathways in consultation with local stakeholders, and endeavouring to meet established National Guidelines. Where appropriate, sessional commitments in other centres can be considered reflecting sub-speciality interest where these align with service development and delivery.
Main duties of the job
This post is a replacement post, covering both main Trust sites at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH) and Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) with full participation in cross county activities and service planning. The post is full-time. Job share applicants are welcome. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis.
The post-holder will share responsibilities with his/her fellow cardiologists at CGH and GRH for the provision of inpatient care within the 'cardiologist of the week model', acceptance of referrals, outpatient clinic provision and appropriate imaging and reporting duties.
Contribution to the non-interventional weekend rota for ward rounds at both main hospital sites is currently on a 1 in 7 basis. Out of hours 'on call' is provided by interventional cardiologists and thus there is no overnight on-call commitment for this post.
