This is an exciting opportunity for experienced midwives to apply at Band 6.

A very exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Gloucester continuity teams in both a substantive post!

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working in a continuity model with an existing supportive and friendly team.

Hours are negotiable.

Main duties of the job

You will be participating in an integrated midwifery model working within both community and all areas of the acute setting. Your main priority will be to demonstrate and promote a woman and family centred style of clinical practice. You will participate and engage in the development of evidence based Midwifery Continuity of Carer Teams within Gloucestershire You will be responsible for delivering and maintaining a high standard of day to day, evidence based practice for all women in the designated clinical area/caseload. It is expected that you will provide the full range of midwifery support and care, which includes antenatal, one to one care in labour and postnatal care, liaising with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. You will engage with women and their families to encourage and promote women centred care, normalising their experience as much as possible.

Enhanced Midwifery Continuity of Carer Teams provide care and support to a diverse demographic of families with higher levels of deprivation and health inequalities. The MBRACCE reports evidence that black and Asian women, and women living in areas of higher deprivation are at greater risk of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Our objective is to provide an enhanced continuity of carer model of care to a geographically based cohort of women.

To provide evidence-based, women-centred midwifery care to women and birthing people living in Gloucestershire and be accountable for the overall provision of excellent care. To be a competent midwife, working flexibly within the Midwifery Service, providing individualised and culturally sensitive midwifery led / Consultant led care to women and their families. Work within the NMC Code of Professional Standards (March 2015) as an autonomous practitioner. Maintain compliance with service standards, policies and guidelines so that effective, safe care is provided at all times

Qualifications

Essential

  • Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • United Kingdom recognised Degree in Midwifery Practice
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of professional portfolio and registration revalidation

Experience

Essential

  • Experience (through placement or employment) of working in an acute clinical environment

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a relevant speciality

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Essential

  • Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate
  • Acts as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice.
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective service and care delivery.
  • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
