Job summary

We are seeking to appoint an influential and transformational Consultant Clinical Endoscopist for the Endoscopy Service at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are inviting applications from experienced Clinical Endoscopists with proven competence in undertaking a range of diagnostic procedures to support the service in developing the speciality.

As a Consultant Clinical Endoscopist you will have a key role in the provision of clinical services and training of staff working within Endoscopy in conjunction with the clinical and management team. The successful candidate will also be a key team member for the delivery of JAG and GRS standards including the implementation of improved clinical pathways and driving innovation through the use of research and audit.

The post holder will be a clinical expert in the field of Endoscopy and will fulfil the 4 domains of the Nurse Consultant function:

The post holder will practice at an advanced clinical level and exercise high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care. The post holder will provide clinical leadership, expert practice, and advanced knowledge, integrating research evidence into practice and contributing to/leading on research in this clinical field. There is an expectation that a maximum of 50% of the post holder's portfolio will be spent in direct autonomous clinical practice, having clinical responsibility for a defined cohort of patients and providing leadership for clinicians within this clinical area.

The post holder will monitor and improve standards of care through, supervision of practice, clinical audit, identifying quality improvement and research questions, disseminating research findings, national guidelines and promoting their translation into practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership.

The post holder will maintain and further develop a local and national profile as a Consultant Clinical Endoscopist by being a creative and innovative leader in developing services for this patient group.

- Provide autonomous leadership, guidance and professional judgement in making challenging patient centred decisions in compliance with their respective code of conduct and within their scope of practice, being responsible and accountable for their decisions, actions and omissions at this level of practice.

- Take responsibility for autonomous clinical decision making of as appropriate for the service. Manage a defined caseload that will focus on patients, including those with complex physical and/or mental health needs.

- Undertake Non-Medical Prescribing role and provide advice on medicine management issues associated with the patient specialty group. Work within Trust policy for Medicines Management.

- Act as an expert resource for the Trust and provide specialist advice when required

- Lead the development of future clinical initiatives, including policies using specialist knowledge within the service/division, which promote collaborative working and deliver a high standard of clinical care for patients and their families.

- Report and raise concerns related to Safeguarding, accessing advice and support as required. Leadership and management

- Operationally line manage, mentor and support team of Clinical endoscopists with support from the senior management team. Provide senior managerial support and leadership to staff assigning responsibility for individual projects, providing day to day clinical support and overseeing staff deployment, balancing the workloads of individual team members.

- Ensure that staff, within line management responsibility, are managed according to corporate policies and procedures, including recruitment, selection, induction performance review, setting objectives and personal development plans, mentoring, providing practical support and advice on day-to-day work, ensuring staff have access to appropriate training opportunities and undertaking disciplinary and grievance procedures as required.

- Encourage teamwork that improves communication, understanding and performance. Maximise the skills and talents of team members and take appropriate steps to support their development. Lead by example by adopting a positive attitude towards their work, service users and colleagues.

- Utilise well developed facilitation skills to effectively chair multidisciplinary meetings, leading on quality improvement projects utilising core project management skills, tracking progress and initiating actions required to sustain momentum and reach conclusions and sustainability within change programmes.
