Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Vascular Scientist (or Sonographer experienced in Vascular Ultrasound) to join the friendly team of 12 working in the Vascular Laboratories of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a permanent 1.0WTE 37.5 hrs per week position. The department runs Monday to Friday, 8.30 - 16.30, but flexible working hours will be considered. You will be expected to work across sites at Cheltenham General and Gloucester Royal Hospitals. There is a regular free shuttle bus service between sites.
The successful candidate must be experienced in vascular ultrasound and will be expected to perform and report on a wide range of vascular ultrasound examinations.

Main duties of the job
- Performing and reporting vascular ultrasound scans
- Managing the patient workload on a daily basis
- Participating in research, audit and teaching
- Supervising trainee vascular scientists
- Assisting with administrative duties and operational running of the department
The department provides a specialist diagnostic vascular ultrasound imaging service for the Gloucestershire and Swindon vascular network. The main modalities include extracranial carotid and vertebral assessment, peripheral upper and lower limb arterial and venous examinations, bypass graft and post-EVAR surveillance, vein stent surveillance, fistula assessment and treadmill testing.
Ideally you are a statutory registered Clinical Scientist, an SVT accredited Vascular Scientist (AVS) or hold a relevant postgraduate qualification in vascular ultrasound. You must be able to perform required examinations and report on them independently. STP trainees in their final year might also be considered.
Please note: A face to face interview is required as you may need to take part in a practical assessment.

The Vascular Laboratory team work closely with seven Vascular Consultants, Consultant Radiologists, Vascular Access Nurse Specialists, Vascular Surgical Care Practitioners and Vascular Nurse Specialists as part of a multidisciplinary team in the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. The Vascular Laboratories are spacious air-conditioned rooms and are well-equipped with 5 Philips EPIQ 7, 1 Philips EPIQ 5 and Philips InnoSite ultrasound machines. We use an electronic reporting system as well as CRIS/PACS.

The post-holder is required to provide safe, effective and timely diagnostic vascular ultrasound services within the Gloucestershire and Swindon Vascular network. This involves the use of complex imaging and measurement equipment for direct patient assessment.
The post-holder is required to assume a high degree of autonomy, taking direct responsibility for management of patient workload on a daily basis and reporting the results of the investigation to referring clinicians as well as advising the patient on the appropriate course of action.
