Job summary
Working as part of our multi-award winning Divisional Analytics Team, our Senior Analysts are responsible for transforming the hospital activity data we hold into intelligence and insight to facilitate planning and delivery of our acute services and managing external reporting to NHSE.
Over the past few years our BI team have worked to aid the trust in making critical decisions while supporting patient flow and quality of care during one of the most important and challenging times for healthcare. This included using advanced forecasting models to predict COVID admissions, creating real time operational dashboards, and gaining access to never before seen data flows. Gloucestershire Hospitals BI Team has gained national recognition, winning the Health Tech Newspaper Award for Best Use of Data 2020 and AphA's Analytical Team of the Year.
This is an exciting time to be a part of the GHFT BI team. We are moving forward fast with our Digital BI strategy and implementing Tableau within the Trust, alongside these ambitious plans comes lots of opportunities for staff to develop personally and professionally. As a Trust we are determined to be at the forefront of change, using tools such as machine learning and predictive analytics in the next stages of our journey.

Main duties of the job
This role is based in the Corporate team within the BI unit at Cheltenham General. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical capabilities, along with the ability to effectively communicate and present complex information to a range of different stakeholders. The candidate will need to be able to work under pressure and be able to prioritise their own workload when there are conflicting deadlines. One of the key elements of this role will be to support the Trusts senior leadership in delivering on RTT targets around waiting times for elective and planned care.
We are therefore looking for an experienced analyst who has a drive and passion for delivering an exemplar BI service. An individual who is both forward thinking and solution orientated.

This involves working closely with clinicians and senior managers within the hospital to understand their requirements, developing reporting tools and providing intelligence to enable services to make better informed decisions. The post holder will also be responsible for interrogating large volumes of highly complex data, and use a variety of software and analytical methods to turn this data into intelligence.
The post holder is expected to highlight any areas of concern with regard to data quality and accuracy and undertake appropriate action as required. The post holder will work as part of a team of analysts, but will be required to work independently at times and manage their own workload. They will also need to take a proactive approach with regard to prioritising and negotiating deadlines.

- Bachelor Degree or equivalent educational level
- Knowledge and experience of SQL
- Advanced knowledge and highly skilled in the use of MS Excel.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of NHS Data Dictionary including datasets, data standards and data modelling concepts
- Ability and experenice to present information with a high level of accuracy to a wide range of audiences both verbally and electronically (e.g. charts graphs, reports, scorecards, tables, dashboards etc.)
- An analytical mindset and ability to explain trends and themes in data.
- Detailed understanding of the importance of data quality
- Ability to challenge and manage user expectations
- Excellent problem solving skills to the development of advanced analytical methodologies.
- Lead by example
- The ability to exercise own initiative and work independently to achieve objectives and deadlines.
