Job summary

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic ward manager to provide strong leadership in gynaecology, on ward 9a. The ward incorporates gynaecology in-patients as well as an emergency gynaecology assessment unit. The manager will also closely link with gynaecology out-patients.

We are looking for a strong compassionate leader, who is innovative & passionate about delivering high standards of quality care to women: sometimes these can be during emotional & distressing events in their lives. You will need to be motivated, enthusiastic, possess excellent interpersonal skills, have fresh ideas & want to be part of an evolving gynaecology service to be proud of.

Main duties of the job

Experience in caring for patients with gynaecological conditions and problems is highly desirable however extensive experience in an acute hospital setting is essential.

You must be able to demonstrate sound leadership skills and the ability to manage a challenging daily operational role whilst working towards longer term business plans and goals.

We are also working on a gynaecology strategy and would welcome involvement from the ward manager in doing this, as we recognize the importance of staff feeling that they can contribute to how the unit operates.

About us

Ward 9a is a 13 bed in patient ward consisting of side rooms. the gynaecology emergency assessment unit is located alongside the ward and is open during the daytime

Job description

Job responsibilities

- Carry out individualized nursing care and procedures to the highest standards complying with hospital policies and procedures at all times

- To maintain high standards of infection control, as per hospital policy. Be responsible for assisting with maintenance of a clean working environment.

- To manage own workload within clinical area and competence of the post.

- Have responsibility for the correct administration and custody of medicines according to Trust policy

- Act as the patients advocate

- Promote fairness within the team and treat staff, patients and visitors with dignity and respect

- Maintaining confidentiality in keeping with NMC code

- Act as a chaperone when patients are having intimate examinations and ensure maintenance of privacy and dignity

- To assist practitioners during procedures on the ward and in out-patients

Provide professional leadership to nurses and students, acting as a role model within the department, surgical division and the Trust ensuring that competence in managerial and clinical practice is both developed and maintained

Be visible and maintain responsibility for the department, ensuring that day to day delivery istimely and safe, supporting the organisation to meet the corporate agenda; for example, CareQuality Commission and legislation.

Lead on and facilitate complex care, discharge, or patient care issues, and also on complaints being able to use analytical skills to problem solve and find solutions to ensure that best practice, and best patient care outcomes are achieved. To ensure that services are continually developed.

This will include meeting with patients and their representatives to manage and resolve complaint issues.

Highly visible, accessible, and influential figure on whom staff, patients, families and carers can rely, to ensure the fundamentals of care are delivered effectively and efficiently.

Provide professional leadership to nurses, and students, acting as a role model within the department, surgical division and the Trust ensuring that competence in managerial and clinical practice is both developed and maintained.

Provide assurance to the Chief Nurse and Divisional Director for Quality and Nursing that there is continuous improvement in the delivery of clinical services within the Department and are tailored to the needs of the patients.

Provide clear clinical leadership for nursing. The post holder will deputise for the Matron as required

Support the development of nursing skills in all aspects of the role providing expert clinical knowledge and specialised advice.

Provide nursing leadership, set and maintain professional nursing standards, provide professional nursing advice and direction to the staff. The post holder will be professionally and managerially responsible for the named staff in the unit at any one time.
