Job summary

Join our dynamic team dedicated to enhancing patient care in the Emergency Department. Are you enthusiastic and passionate about revolutionising mental health support? We're seeking a driven and compassionate Nurse Practitioner to spearhead Trauma Informed Care (TIC) as part of an exciting pilot funded by NHS England.

In this pivotal role, you'll lead the team in improving the care experience and outcomes for patients with mental health needs. Working alongside a team of like-minded individuals, you'll be at the forefront of initiating creative Trauma Informed Care practices, recognising the importance of delivering high-quality care. Your main responsibility will involve conducting a comprehensive systemic scoping of Trauma Informed Care practices within Unscheduled Care. Through this exploration, you'll gather invaluable insights to inform the development, design, and implementation of an innovative Trauma Informed Care educational package for our dedicated Unscheduled Care teams.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for working with the Head of Quality and Deputy Director of Quality on the improvement programme for the Trauma Informed Care Pilot funded by NHS England to undertake systemic scoping of trauma informed practice within GHNHSFT, to include:

1. A comprehensive training needs analysis for Trauma-Informed Care at GHNHSFT

2. Identification of and further development upon current trauma informed practice

3. To evaluate the impact of training using Quality Improvement methodology

4. To deliberately foster a trauma informed culture within a workforce that recognises the value of the approach and its application at all organisational levels.

5. To evaluate and disseminate the project outcomes to partners within the Integrated Care System and NHSE Regional Team.

6. To inform policy and service development in the emergency department and Trust-wide

Provide a unique opportunity to develop Trauma-Informed Care at Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust Hospitals, commencing in the emergency department.

Be supported by the Gloucestershire Quality Improvement Academy in growing Quality Improvement capability.

Provide a highly visible, accessible, authoritative and influential figure on whom staff, systems partners, and regional and national colleagues can rely, to ensure the project is delivered effectively and efficiently.

Provide professional leadership to nurses, midwives and AHPs at all levels, acting as a role model within the Trust ensuring that competence in trauma-informed clinical practice is both developed and maintained.

Provide assurance and reports to the Head of Quality and Deputy Director of Quality, that there is continuous improvement in the delivery of the project.

  • This role will work collaboratively with the Mental Health Practice Educator aligned to this project and the Project team, consisting of the Psychology Service, Emergency Department Consultant, Mental Health Liaison and Complex Emotional Needs services from within Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust and the Education and Development Service at GHFT.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Registered Nurse/Midwife/AHP with the Nursing and Midwifery Council or the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Educated to Masters level (or equivalent)
  • Extensive post-registration experience of working with adults who may present with both physical and mental health needs.
  • Demonstrable qualification/experience in quality improvement projects.
  • IT skills to include Microsoft Office applications and other Trust applications as necessary
  • Act as a lead resource for all staff, dissemination knowledge and expertise.
  • Demonstrate understanding and implementation of trauma-informed practice, recovery and social inclusion. evidenced-based practice in liaison with the multi-disciplinary team, and participate in audit as required.
  • Undertake and report audit data.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational and planning skills.
  • Understanding of the organization and the operating environment.
  • Ensure personal and professional development is progressed through Individual Performance Development Review and revalidation.
