Job summary

We are delighted to be able to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced Physiotherapist with specialist knowledge and skills in Critical Care, Surgery and Respiratory medicine to join our integrated therapy team.

You will be motivated, innovative and a flexible team player, providing expertise to our respiratory/surgical wards, and supporting the wider Critical care, Surgery and respiratory team.

You need to have proven experience in the field of respiratory care, as well as mobility and functional assessments for both acute and complex multi-pathology patients.

Leadership skills will be required, to deliver high quality, evidence-based practice and you will be an active participant of the on-call roster/weekend working.

You will be expected to manage a daily caseload in addition to supporting junior staff in gaining and maintaining their competence for on-call.

You would form an integral part of the senior leadership team and can expect on-going support to further both your personal and professional career development.

- To deliver therapeutic interventions, acting as a specialist clinician within the Critical Care, Surgery and Respiratory medicine (CCSR) team, using the principles of Physiotherapy in an integrated and client-centred way supported by the Therapy Competency Framework.

- The post holder assumes responsibility for the day-to-day management of the clinical area, in the absence of the team leader.

- The post holder is supervised by a named therapist, who may not be present at all times. Clinical and professional supervision is in the form of regular clinical reasoning sessions, observed practice, peer review and formal training.

- The post holder will link with the Band 7 clinical lead therapist to support the use of resources within budget. The level of managerial responsibility involves the supervision and appraisal of junior therapists, support workers and undergraduates, with the support of the Band 7.

- When performing on call duties, staff must be available on the ward within 45 minutes of the call. For staff living more than 45 minutes from the hospital, a designated on-call room for overnight stay is available in GRH and is free of charge. This room can be used by staff at both sites.
