An exciting opportunity to join the busy Technical Services Department has arisen at Cheltenham General Hospital. This post is based at Cheltenham General Hospital but may also involve some cross site working at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. As part of the 3 Counties Cancer Network (3 CCN), our aseptic services unit prepares chemotherapy for patients from Gloucestershire and the surrounding area. We also prepare Parenteral Nutrition products and a small range of other IV products. We require a pharmacy assistant to join our production team.
Duties may include preparation of worksheets, labelling of aseptic pharmaceutical products, pre-packing of medicines and assisting the technicians in the clean room. Suitable candidates may be further trained in compounding with progression to Band 3 upon completion of in house training .
The post holder will be required to obtain relevant units of a Buttercups Pharmacy qualification (Nationally recognised) in Pharmacy Services.For further information please contact Natalie Knowles or Ally Baldwin on 0300 422 3032/ 0300 422 3033

Main duties of the job
Main duties of the job are:
- To accurately follow the departments standard operating procedures.
- To complete worksheets, assemble raw materials and generate labels for all aseptically prepared products.
- To support technicians and compounding pharmacy assistants to dispense, using aseptic technique , cytotoxic intravenous additives , cytotoxic syringes , adult and neonatal Total Parental Nutrition (TPN ) infusions and occasionally aseptic batches of syringes and eye drops.
- To perform volume checks on syringes once suitable training has been provided .
- To view , label and package completed products.
- To complete in-house competency training .
- Participate in regular stock checks .

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Numeracy and literacy to Grade C (or equivalent) GCSE level
Basic level of competence in a range of information technology skills
Must be able to work well as part of a team or alone
Desirable - NVQ level 2 modules relevant to position or equivalent (these will be worked towards once in post)
Completion of in-house competency training
KEY RESULT AREAS
To accurately follow the departments standard operating procedures on a daily basis.
(For suitable individuals only) Aseptic preparation of a limited range of parenteral nutrition and chemotherapy drugs as specified and signed off as competent for in the individual training manual
To ensure that all areas of the aseptic unit are of an appropriate standard of cleanliness.
To complete in-house competency training
To assemble raw materials and complete worksheets for product preparation.
To perform the clean in the unit for the cleaning of isolators, using specialist equipment, in accordance with set procedures.
To perform pressure decay tests when required for all isolators
To maintain adequate stock levels of drugs and disposables in the unit and judge which stock is to be re-ordered.
Once trained to book out raw materials correctly and in a time efficient manner
If trained - To be responsible for ensuring that pre-packing orders are received and completed within a given time frame and to report any ideas, problems or discrepancies to the senior pharmacy technician.
To support the pharmacy technicians and compounding ATOs in the clean room prioritising workload, sanitising the products for production
Performing volume checks on syringes, after suitable training has been given.
To view, label, package and deliver completed products
To introduce the skills and knowledge relevant to a pharmacy assistant to new staff including student technicians when they first arrive within the manufacturing unit.
Occasional communication with doctors (of all grades), nursing staff and support workers and members of the public to provide factual information and receive messages from them relating to pharmacy manufacturing.
Laundry
Administrative and clerical duties including :
- Daily data entry to produce worksheets, labels and batch details for the department

- Photocopying
To work across site at GRH if and when required to
